Sources: Eddie Howe pushing Newcastle to sign Scott McTominay after Man United reveal

Newcastle United are pushing to sign Scott McTominay this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Eddie Howe is very keen on McTominay and is pushing the club to sign him amid increasingly likelihood that he will leave Man United in the summer.

The 26-year-old’s current contract at Old Trafford runs until 2025 but includes the option of a further year.

Last month (19 February), Football Insider revealed that United are willing to listen to offers for the midfielder at the end of the season.

Erik ten Hag’s side are confident they can offload the Scotland international for £25million due to his experience in the Premier League but haven’t made a final decision on his future.

Howe is very keen to bring the Man United man to St James’ Park as part of an overhaul of the midfield this summer.

The Newcastle boss is aware of the lack of depth in the middle of the park after losing Jonjo Shelvey to Nottingham Forest in January.

McTominay has made 32 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions this season and has scored two goals and provided one assist.

The midfielder has fallen behind Casemiro and Fred in the pecking order at Old Trafford and has started just seven Premier League games this season.

McTominay has been flying on the international stage in their Euro 2024 qualifiers this month.

Despite starting on the bench, McTominay came on to score twice in less than ten minutes in Scotland’s 3-0 win over Cyprus on Saturday (25 March).

He started the game against Spain on Tuesday (28 March) and scored the only two goals of the game to secure a historic victory for Steven Clarke’s side.
