Sources: Emerson booked in for Tottenham medical after £25.7m fee agreed
Emerson Royal will undergo a medical at Tottenham after a £25.7million bid was accepted by Barcelona, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The 22-year-old is heading to Spurs after being granted permission to put the finishing touches on a move.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider he will undergo a medical tomorrow with a deal expected to be completed before the window shuts.
The right-back is also on the verge of agreeing personal terms with the London giants.
Royal‘s contract with Barcelona was due to run until the summer of 2024.
The Brazilian defender is the latest player to leave the La Liga giants because of their financial problems.
He has featured in all three of Ronald Koeman’s side’s league games this season and started the 2-1 win over Getafe last weekend.
A product of Sao Paulo’s academy, Royal moved to Spain from Atletico Mineiro in 2018.
His performances for Real Betis over the past two seasons have caught the eye of Spurs and the club see him as a long-term solution to their problems at right-back.
Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty have failed to produce consistent performances since moving to north London.
Nuno Espirito Santo is unconvinced by both and the younger Japhet Tanganga has been played ahead of them.
Tanganga has started all three of Tottenham’s Premier League fixtures this season, with clean sheets kept in all three.
Royal looks set to become Spurs’ fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Bryan Gil, Cristian Romero, Pape Sarr and Pierluigi Gollini.
