Sources: Even Burnley don’t want Man United loanee Wout Weghorst
Wout Weghorst does not have a future at parent club Burnley despite their promotion to the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.
The 30-year-old is on loan at Man United after spending the first half of the 2022-23 campaign away at Besiktas.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month (8 April) that the Red Devils have decided not to pursue a permanent deal for Weghorst in the summer window.
Erik ten Hag has been impressed with his attitude and work rate – but remains focused on bringing a world-class forward to Old Trafford.
As such, Weghorst will return to Turf Moor this summer as Burnley prepare for a return to the Premier League.
But a well-placed source has told Football Insider that he will be allowed to leave the club as the 6ft 6in hitman doesn’t fit into the plans or style of Clarets boss Vincent Kompany.
Weghorst signed a three-and-a-half-year deal when he joined the Lancashire club in January 2022 for a reported fee of £12million.
He notched just two goals and three assists in 20 games for Burnley as they were relegated from the top flight in the 2021-22 season.
Days after the end of the season, the Netherlands international revealed his desire to leave the club in order to play at a higher level.
He has scored 11 goals in 40 appearances across his spells with Man United and Besiktas but is yet to find the net in 11 Premier League outings – nine of which have come as a starter.
Weghorst earns a reported wage of just over £32,500-a-week at Burnley.

Kompany’s side are already planning for life back in the Premier League – with Football Insider revealing on Monday (17 April) that they are in talks with Southampton over a deal for loan star Nathan Tella.
This site also revealed on Tuesday (18 April) that the Clarets want to bring on-loan Chelsea star Ian Maatsen back to the club next season.
In other news, Vincent Kompany expected to reject new approach.
