Sources: Everton braced for £30m+ Newcastle bid for Anthony Gordon

Everton are braced for a new £30million-plus Newcastle United offer for Anthony Gordon, sources have told Football Insider.

The north-east giants have reignited their pursuit of the Goodison star, 21, after loaning Chris Wood to Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle are in the market for a versatile forward rather than a direct replacement for Wood and are willing to spend big on a permanent signing.

Gordon was on their radar last summer and Everton knocked back a £35m offer from Newcastle in July.

Chelsea also pushed hard for Gordon and suggested multiple formulas, including players as part of a swap deal, before talks ground to a halt.

Gordon has struggled to reproduce his form of the second half of last season for Frank Lampard’s relegation-threatened team.

But Newcastle regard the Everton academy product as a big talent capable of providing more cutting edge to their team.

He has also attracted interest from Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

Everton have held talks over extending Gordon’s contract, which is due to expire in the summer of 2025.

The England Under-21 international has struggled to hold down a place in the Toffees side of late – and has managed just three goals in 18 appearances this year.

He has managed just one start since the World Cup break last year.

Gordon was confronted in his car by angry supporters last week (14 January), following the crunch loss against bottom club Southampton at Goodison Park.

Everton have since slipped to defeat against 18th-place West Ham, heaping more pressure on manager Frank Lampard.

The Merseysiders are two points from safety and face league leaders Arsenal next.

Meanwhile, Newcastle sit third in the Premier League following their 0-0 draw away at Crystal Palace on Saturday (21 January).

The Magpies have lost just once all season.
