Sources: Ex-Swansea man Scott agrees to join Middlesbrough

Former Swansea City head of recruitment Andy Scott is set to join Championship rivals Middlesbrough, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The north-east outfit have been working on a deal to make Scott their new chief scout.

A Boro source has told Football Insider that an agreement is in place and his appointment could be confirmed soon.

Middlesbrough

Swansea confirmed earlier this week (6 December) that Scott had left the club after over two years in the role.

He oversaw the successful signings of Jamal Lowe and Ryan Manning as the Swans reached the play-offs in the previous two seasons.

The club said it was a mutual decision after internal structural changes.

The 49-year-old, who held similar roles at Brentford and Watford, will now move to Middlesbrough.

Chris Wilder replaced Neil Warnock as manager at the Riverside last month (7 November).

As quoted by Sky Sports (9 November), the new manager insisted he is happy to work with recruitment staff amid suggestions he wanted total control at previous club Sheffield United.

Kieran Scott is the club’s director of football after moving from Norwich City over the summer (2021).

Wilder suggested at his unveiling he will strengthen his squad in January and will work with Kieran Scott to identify targets.

Middlesbrough have lost just one of four games under Wilder and currently sit in ninth, five points off the play-off positions.

Sheffield United

Andy Scott represented Sutton, Sheffield United, Brentford, Oxford United and Leyton Orient amongst others in a 14-year playing career.

He then managed Brentford, Rotherham United and Aldershot Town before moving into recruitment roles.

In other news, Wilder has given the green light for Middlesbrough to let a 26-year-old go in January.
