Sources: Jimmy Thelin emerges as contender to be Swansea City manager after Tottenham approach

Elfsborg manager Jimmy Thelin is under consideration for the manager job at Swansea City, sources have told Football Insider.

The Welsh side are in search of a new head coach following the sacking of Michael Duff earlier this week after less than six months in charge.

The Swede is on the radar of the Championship outfit along with several other clubs after his impressive work at the Swedish club.

Swansea

Tottenham’s senior assistant coach Chris Davies is also among the leading contenders.

However, the Premier League club are keen to retain his services and have rejected an approach from the Swans.

The manager position at the south Wales side, who have had well-regarded managers including Graham Potter and Steve Cooper in the dugout in recent years, remains vacant.

Belgian top-flight side Westerlo as well as the Swedish national team are also interested in Thelin, who is earning a reputation as one of the best young head coaches in European football.

The 45-year-old narrowly missed guiding Elfsborg to Swedish Allsvenskan success this season only to lose the title to Malmo on goal difference after their 1-0 defeat to them on the last day of the campaign.

He has been the boss at Elfsborg, whose season restarts in April, since 2018 where he has taken them from midtable to regularly challenging for the title.

Swansea

Football Insider revealed last month (29 November) that Swansea and Cardiff City are plotting January moves for Brighton midfielder Marc Leonard amid his impressive form during his loan at Northampton.

Swansea are struggling in the Championship and currently sit 18th with 21 points from 19 games, winning only one of their last eight matches.
