Sources: Luton Town set sights on signing Stoke City star Fielding on emergency deal

Luton Town have set their sights on signing Stoke City goalkeeper Frank Fielding on an emergency loan, Football Insider understands.

The Hatters could be forced into the emergency loan market after number one James Shea suffered a serious knee injury in a win at Cardiff on Easter Monday.

Harry Isted, 25, replaced the injured Shea at Cardiff, but promotion-chasing Luton would be permitted to sign another goalkeeper on loan as Isted is not considered to be a senior shot-stopper.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Luton boss Nathan Jones is scouring the market and Fielding is among his targets.

Former Blackburn and Bristol City keeper Fielding, 34, is third-choice keeper at Stoke and had a spell on loan at Salford last month.

Jack Bonham is first choice at the bet365 Stadium, with Joe Bursik his understudy.

Fielding has been named on the bench twice by Michael O’Neill this season but is yet to make his debut for the club.

The English shot-stopper joined the Potters on a free transfer in December following his release from Millwall last summer.

Luton Town are fourth in the Championship and well-placed to progress to the play-offs.

The Hatters only have Blackpool, Fulham and Reading left to face in the regular season.

However, with the play-offs to consider, Nathan Jones is conscious of being left short in the goalkeeping department after James Shea’s injury.
