Sources: Man United and Man City team up to overthrow rules after 115 charges
Manchester United and Manchester City will put their rivalry to the side to push for new Premier League financial regulations.
Man United and Man City are both in support of scrapping the current Profit and Sustainability Rules used in the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.
All 20 Premier League clubs are set to meet this week to discuss potential changes to financial regulations.
As reported by Sky Sports, the meeting will explore replacing current rules with new Financial Fair Play regulations that align with Uefa’s policy.
Uefa’s Financial Sustainability model caps club spending on wages, transfers and agent fees to a percentage of their overall revenue.
It is understood that the Premier League would initially set a cap of around 85 percent of overall club revenue, with any overspending set to be punished.
The existing PSR model states that clubs can lose a maximum of £105million over three years – with £90million of that figure sourced through owner investment.
Under the PSR model, Everton were found guilty of breaching the regulations by spending over the limit due to the construction costs attached to their new stadium.
The Toffees were deducted 10 points and now face a second charge for the same offence alongside Nottingham Forest after the clubs published their 2022-23 accounts.
Both United and City – the two clubs with the highest revenue generation in the Premier League – are set to rally support for the regulation changes.
The Red Devils have struggled under the current rules with Erik ten Hag’s side unable to spend money on new transfers over the January window due to their restricted budget.

City have not faced budget issues due to the PSR rules but the Manchester giants were charged with 115 alleged FFP breaches over nine seasons.
Pep Guardiola’s broke the Premier League record for revenue generated in 2022-23 with £712million, while United trail closely behind with £648million.
