Sources: Man United ‘domino effect’ could land them Benjamin Pavard
Man United could turn their attention towards signing Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard in the summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Red Devils are in the market for a new right-back and have made Bayer Leverkusen youngster Jeremie Frimpong a top target.
Football Insider sources revealed on Friday (7 April) that Man United are in pole position to sign Frimpong in a £40m deal this summer.
However, Bayern Munich also retain an interest in Frimpong and could look to hijack United’s bid for the 22-year-old.
Should the German giants be successful and land Frimpong, United could trigger a domino effect and instead target Pavard – whose position at Bayern would be under threat from Frimpong.
The versatile 27-year-old is currently in his fourth year with Bayern after joining them from Vfb Stuttgart in 2019.
During his time with Bayern, Pavard has filled his trophy cabinet with three league titles, four domestic cups and the 2020 Champions League trophy.
Pavard has also enjoyed success on the international stage with France, making 47 caps and helping them to lift the 2018 World Cup.
Pavard has been a regular starter for both Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel in Munich, starting 35 games across all competitions and scoring six times.

However, Frimpong has enjoyed an extremely productive campaign with eight goals and nine assists in 37 appearances and could dethrone Pavard at the Allianz Arena if signed.
It is understood that Barcelona are also interested in Frimpong this summer, but the club’s financial situation has seen them fall behind Bayern and United in the race.
