Sources: Man United explore deal to sign Serhou Guirassy

Man United have made VFB Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy a top target ahead of the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old striker is available next month at a cut price of £18million thanks to a release clause inserted in his contract.

Well-placed sources say that Erik ten Hag is desperate to sign a proven goalscorer in the January window to solve his side’s poor attacking output this season.

The Dutchman views Guirassy as a good fit for his tactical style at Old Trafford and is pushing United’s recruitment team to get a deal over the line.

However, all transfer business at United now requires approval from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team after they gained sporting control from the Glazer family this month.

The change of ownership and control at United is expected to cause delays with Football Insider revealing that all transfer plans at Old Trafford had been put on hold until Ratcliffe’s investment deal was completed.

Signing Guirassy will also depend on United making sales in January as their budget has been affected by Financial Fair Play regulations.

Raphael Varane is one United star who could leave the club in January to raise funds for Guirassy’s arrival with interest in the French defender from Saudi Arabia and Europe.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (28 December) that Bayern Munich are now in pole position to sign Varane in January.

Guirassy has been in great form in the Bundesliga, scoring 17 goals in 14 league appearances for Stuttgart this season.

The Guinea international started the season superbly with 10 goals in the opening five league fixtures and his goalscoring record has propelled Stuttgart up to third in the table.
