Exclusive: Man United ‘go all out’ to clinch box-office signing after Erik ten Hag talks

Man United have made signing a new striker their top priority this summer after Erik ten Hag talks with the club’s board, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new centre-forward after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Saudi Arabia in January.

Wout Weghorst joined in January on a six-month loan from Burnley, but the Dutch striker has only scored twice in his first 15 appearances at the club.

Football Insider sources revealed on Sunday (5 March) that Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is top of their striker shortlist, with Harry Kane, Tammy Abraham and Benjamin Sesko also considered.

Manager Ten Hag has made it clear to club directors that the club need an A-list number nine if they are to challenge for the top trophies during his reign.

It is believed the club are ready to “go all out” to now get that player, sources explained.

Goals haven’t been an issue for United this season, with the Manchester club ranking sixth in the Premier League for goals scored with 41.

But they have been reliant on Marcus Rashford finding the net, with the 25-year-old scoring his 26th goal of the campaign on Thursday evening in the 4-1 win against Real Betis.

Anthony Martial looked bright under Ten Hag during United’s pre-season tour this summer, but the Frenchman has struggled with injuries this season.

He missed the start of the season with a hamstring problem and has only managed 14 appearances across all competitions after suffering further injuries to his Achilles, back and hip.

United still retain an interest in signing a central midfielder this summer, with the club in pole position to sign £70m Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong according to this site’s sources.
