Sources: McCormick lined up for medical as Chelsea agree to sell him to Wimbledon with sell-on clause

AFC Wimbledon have reached an agreement in principle to sign Chelsea midfielder Luke McCormick, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

This site broke the news on 23rd June that the League One outfit were in talks over a deal for the Stamford Bridge academy product.

A Chelsea source has told Football Insider that negotiations have progressed well and McCormick is now expected to join Wimbledon following a breakthrough in talks.

The 22-year-old is set to join on a free transfer but there will be a sell-on clause included in the deal.

The move will bring an end to a 16-year association with Chelsea for McCoormick.

He began training with the club aged six and was first signed forms at nine.

McCormick is set to head out of Stamford Bridge without playing a senior match for the club.

He has racked up a vast number of appearances at Under-23s and Under-18s levels, and captained the club in those age groups.

McCormick’s senior football has come during loan spells at Shrewsbury Town and Bristol Rovers.

He was a regular for Rovers last season and made 36 league starts among 43 appearances in all competitions.

It was a chaotic season for the League One outfit, who were relegated in May and worked their way through three different managers throughout the campaign.

Wimbledon finished 19th in League One last season and this is where McCormick is now headed.
