Sources: Middlesbrough agree new Taylor deal in blow to West Brom
Neil Taylor has agreed a new Middlesbrough deal in a blow to rivals including West Brom, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The 32-year-old left-back’s short-term Boro contract was due to expire this month after he became Chris Wilder’s first signing in November.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Wilder’s side now made a breakthrough in talks to secure Taylor on a deal until the end of the season.
The former Aston Villa and Swansea City defender is expected to put pen-to-paper on his contract extension within the next 24 to 48 hours.
West Brom, Bristol City and Coventry have expressed an interest in signing him this month.
As revealed by Football Insider this month (1 January), the Championship trio were all keen on taking advantage of his contract situation.
Despite the rival interest, Taylor has chosen to commit his future to Boro.
The defender became a free agent last summer when his contract at Aston Villa expired.
However, he failed to seal a move elsewhere before the start of the season.
Boro offered him a short-term contract, set to expire at the turn of the year, back in November.
The 43-cap Wales international was left as an unused substitute for his first five games at the Riverside Stadium.
He eventually made his debut as a starter against Bournemouth, and kept his place for the win over Nottingham Forest.
Taylor was not in the matchday squad to face Mansfield Town in the FA cup on Saturday (8 January).

The left-back has 105 Championship appearances under his belt to date after his spells with Swansea, Villa and Middlesbrough.
The north east outfit currently sit seventh in the second tier table, a point behind sixth-placed Huddersfield.
In other news, Middlesbrough and West Brom rivals have agreed seven-figure transfer deal.
