Sources: Millwall in advanced talks to sign Blackpool star Shayne Lavery

Millwall are in advanced talks to sign Blackpool forward Shayne Lavery, sources have told Football Insider.

Lions manager Gary Rowett has made the Northern Ireland international, 23, a top target and is close to securing an agreement.

Lavery, who is in the final year of his contract at Bloomfield Road, has started the opening two games of the Championship campaign on the bench.

The forward made 40 appearances for The Tangerines last season, scoring ten goals – including eight strikes in 20 Championship starts.

Lavery is also an established member of the senior Northern Ireland set-up – having made 15 appearances since his debut in May 2018.

The arrival of Wolves loanee Theo Corbeanu at Blackpool has restricted Lavery’s opportunities and he now looks set to move to another second-tier side.

Millwall are looking to fill the goalscoring void left by Jed Wallace after he completed a free transfer to West Brom earlier this summer.

Lavery played youth football in Northern Ireland before completing his footballing education at Everton.

He featured regularly for The Toffees’ age group sides but failed to make a senior appearance at Goodison Park.

The striker left on loan for Falkirk in January 2019 but departed permanently just months later – joining Northern Irish giants Linfield.

Lavery notched 37 goals and eight assists across 67 appearances for the club – and was the league’s top scorer for the 2020/21 season.

He joined Blackpool following their promotion last summer (2021) and rotated with fellow strikers Gary Madine and Jerry Yates.
