Sources: Millwall reject QPR bid for Danny McNamara

Millwall have rejected a bid from Queens Park Rangers for defender Danny McNamara, Football Insider understands.

New QPR boss Michael Beale has targeted a move for the 23-year-old as he looks to recruit a new right-back.

But a Millwall source has told Football Insider that their London rivals’ offer for McNamara has been knocked back.

The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international only has a year left on his contract at the New Den.

After being handed his debut by Gary Rowett in January 2021 he was in and out of the side at the beginning of the 2021-22 campaign.

McNamara then emerged as the first-choice right wing-back in his back-five system towards the end of the campaign and ended the season with two goals and two assists in 36 Championship games, including 33 starts.

Before making his Lions debut, he spent time out on loan with non-league clubs as well as spells with Newport County and St Johnstone in Scotland.

McNamara has no direct competition in the Millwall squad so Rowett may be reluctant to lose him this summer.

QPR are in the market for a new right-sided defender as Beale looks to revamp the squad that finished 11th in the Championship in 2021-22.

He has already added centre-backs Jake Clarke-Salter and Kenneth Paal to his squad this summer.

Millwall finished ninth in the Championship last season, just six points off the play-off places.

In other news, a Premier League forward is undergoing a medical at QPR ahead of a loan switch with a view to a permanent move.
