Sources: MK Dons in advanced talks to sign Bradley Johnson after Blackburn exit

MK Dons are in advanced talks to sign Bradley Johnson on a free transfer, Football Insider understands.

The 35-year-old is available as a free agent after leaving Blackburn Rovers upon the expiration of his contract last Thursday.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that MK Dons are now closing in on the signing of Johnson with talks progressing well.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in signing the centre-midfielder this summer.

Johnson was a bit-part player for Blackburn in the 2021-22 campaign as the club narrowly missed out on a spot in the Championship play-offs.

The left-footer made 19 appearances across all competitions.

His only assist last season came in a 3-2 defeat at Wigan Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup.

Johnson moved to Ewood Park from Derby County on a free transfer in July 2019.

He has also enjoyed spells at Leeds United, Brighton and Norwich City during his 18-year career as a professional.

The Englishman was most productive during his time at Elland Road where he contributed 17 goals and 10 assists in 139 appearances across all competitions.

MK Dons missed out on promotion last season after getting knocked out of the League One play-offs by Wycombe Wanderers at the semi-final stage.

Liam Manning is keen to bolster his midfield as he looks to go one better next season.

The Dons lost Scott Twine to Burnley for an undisclosed fee earlier in the window.
