Sources: Newcastle could now accept Joelinton offer – he is giving a ‘headache’ to senior staff
Newcastle United could now accept a sensational offer for star man Joelinton, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking in the latest episode of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Brazilian’s failure to pen a new deal on Tyneside means the Magpies may sanction his departure.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Joelinton is causing chiefs at the club a “headache”, which could force them into an unwanted sale.
The 27-year-old’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025 and it is believed he does not want to extend his stay at the club beyond his current deal.
Joelinton has had a productive season under Eddie Howe, notching three goals and four assists from central midfield.
However, he may have played his final game of the season after the club confirmed that he is expected to return from injury in May, which has killed any chance of a move this month.
He picked up a thigh injury in the Magpies’ FA Cup win over arch-rivals Sunderland earlier this month (6 January) and has successfully completed surgery ahead of a period of rehabilitation.
Newcastle could sell a number of key players in January, with Football Insider revealing (20 January) that they want to raise a minimum of £60million in transfer sales to help their Financial Fair Play situation.
Sources also told Football Insider (24 January) that they remain in advanced talks with Saudi side Al-Shabab about a fee for forward Miguel Almiron.

Newcastle sit 10th in the Premier League table following four defeats on the bounce, most recently to Man City on Saturday 13 January.
They are next in action against Fulham at Craven Cottage in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday (27 January).
