Sources: Newcastle pull plug on Declan Rice deal – new West Ham asking price revealed
Newcastle United have halted their pursuit of West Ham star Declan Rice this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 24-year-old is hugely admired by staff at St James’ Park, but the Tyneside club consider the England international unattainable this summer due to his huge asking price.
It is understood that West Ham will demand £80-100million this summer for Rice, with the London side happy to sell him at the end of the season amid fears he could run down his contract.
Rice’s current contract at the London Stadium runs until 2024, which includes an option of a further 12 months.
The Irons captain has rejected multiple contract offers from his current club, including an eight-year deal worth £83million.
Rice is pushing for a move this summer, with the England star keen to play in the Champions League during the peak of his career.
Newcastle are on track to qualify for the elite European competition, but they have decided to instead spend their summer budget improving multiple positions.
A central midfielder remains a priority for Newcastle in the summer, but Rice is no longer top of their shopping list.

The West Ham midfielder scored his third goal of the season on Thursday evening as the Hammers reached the Europa Conference League semi-final with a 5-2 aggregate victory over KAA Gent.
Rice has made 40 appearances for the Hammers in 2022/23 and has played every possible minute of their Premier League campaign so far.
