Sources: Newcastle’s Jack Grealish plan revealed after marquee deal agreed

Newcastle United are planning to accelerate their interest in signing Manchester City star Jack Grealish, sources have told Football Insider.

The north-east giants will turn their attention to the attacking midfielder, 29, after completing a deal to land Anthony Elanga.

Newcastle have agreed to pay Nottingham Forest £55million plus around £5m of add-ons for the Sweden international.

But that will not end their interest in signing forwards this summer despite the presence in their squad of Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes, as well as last season’s unexpected star, Jacob Murphy.

Eddie Howe is a big fan of Grealish and believes he can add cutting edge to their attack.

Grealish accepts he will have to join a new club next season to secure his place in England’s World Cup squad in the summer of 2026.

Newcastle have joined Everton, Napoli and Saudi clubs in registering an interest in the City outcast.

Sources say Grealish has let it be known to friends that he is “open” to a move to another Premier League club, and is “excited” by Everton’s interest.

The glamour of the club’s new stadium and the possibility of a regular starting role is attractive to the former Aston Villa star, who does not just want to be a squad player at a Champions League club.

Newcastle would be better placed than Everton to afford the wages of Grealish, earning £350,000-a-week at City, who would still need to part-fund what would most likely need to be a loan deal.

Jack Grealish makes Man City transfer decision

Grealish joined City from Aston Villa in the summer of 2021 for £100m, but has failed to live up to his price tag at the Etihad.

The 29-year-old seemed to be finding his feet in Manchester during his second campaign at the club, picking up 12 Premier League goal contributions as Pep Guardiola’s side won the treble.

However, the past two years have been less successful for the midfielder and last season he started only seven league games, featuring for just 715 minutes overall.

As a result Grealish has lost his place in the England set-up, and he now looks set to leave City in order to force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

Man City given deadline on Dumfries deal

Meanwhile, Man City have until the middle of July to activate a release clause in Denzel Dumfries’ Inter Milan contract, sources have told Football Insider.

Dumfries, 29, can be purchased for just £21.5million for the next week, with the option running out on the 15th of July.

Sources say that the Netherlands international is one of the names on City’s wanted list, with Barcelona also interested.

Guardiola wants to strengthen his squad in the right-back position after the departure of Kyle Walker to Burnley.
