Sources: Nottingham Forest agree £3.4m Hwang Ui-jo buy-to-loan signing

Nottingham Forest have agreed to sign Bordeaux attacker Hwang Ui-jo on a buy-to-loan deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League club have had a bid of £3.4 million accepted for the South Korea international as they continue their busy summer spending spree.

Forest are ready to sign Hwang, 29, and loan him straight out to Greek giants Olympiakos.

Both clubs are owned by Evangelos Marinakis.

Hwang arrived in Europe with Bordeaux from Japanese side Gamba Osaka back in 2019.

The four-cap South Korea international has scored 29 goals in 97 appearances for the French outfit.

However, Bordeaux, who entered administration in 2021 prior to a takeover, were relegated last season despite Hwang’s 11 strikes in 32 Ligue 1 games.

The striker is into the final year of his terms with the Ligue 2 outfit and Forest have moved to take advantage of his contractual situation.

However, he is set to be sent straight on loan to Olympiakos for the 2022/23 campaign.

Hwang will become Forest’s 13th signing of the summer window following their promotion to the Premier League.

Manager Steve Cooper has already bolstered his attack with the capture of Taiwo Awoniyi, Brendan Aguilera and Jesse Lingard.

Eight of Forest’s new signings featured in the club’s season-opener against Newcastle United.

However, Cooper’s men were beaten 2-0 at St James’ Park.

They will be looking to bounce back at home against West Ham on Sunday (14 August).

Hwang will be the latest in a list of players to move between Forest and Olympiakos in recent years.

The likes of Joao Carvalho and Tiago Silva have left the City Ground for Greece, while Mohamed Draga and Cafu have moved to England from the Greek giants.
