Sources: Nottingham Forest line up £100m January spending spree

Nottingham Forest are planning to spend up to £100million in the January window to escape relegation, sources have told Football Insider.

The club’s owner Evangelos Marinakis has given the green light to another sensational spending spree.

Forest are ready to splash out between £50-100million on signings after overhauling their recruitment set-up.

The Premier League club sacked transfer chiefs George Syrianos and Andy Scott following a review of their £150m summer spend.

Many of the signings have failed to fire and brought into question, internally and externally, the policy of signing 22 new players following their promotion to the Premier League.

But new sporting director Filippo Giraldi is set to be handed another huge transfer kitty in a bid to keep the club in the top flight.

Plans are being put in place to spend big on the new signings that can improve Steve Cooper’s team.

Forest sit rock-bottom of the Premier League after 12 games despite picking up an impressive win over Liverpool on Saturday (22 October).

Nine of the players who started that match all arrived in the summer, including Taiwo Awoniyi, who scored the only goal of the game.

Cooper’s side have won just two games as they sit level on points with Wolves and Leeds United.

Forest are next in action against league leaders Arsenal on Sunday (30 October).

They then welcome Brentford to the City ground the following weekend (5 November).

In other news, an ex-Fifa official has told Football Insider that Dean Henderson may be set for FA charge as an image emerged from Nottingham Forest.
