Sources: Nottingham Forest star Harry Toffolo opens talks to join Anderlecht

Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo is in talks to join Anderlecht, sources have told Football Insider.

Reds manager Steve Cooper has given the green light to the wing-back, 27, leaving as he now needs to trim his squad to register it with the Premier League for the second half of the season.

Hull City have also shown an interest in Toffolo, but he is not interested in a move to the Championship club and wants to join Anderlecht.

The Belgian club are confident of finalising a deal before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Forest have signed 25 players since promotion after bringing in Gustavo Scarpa, Danilo and Chris Wood this month.

Midfielder O’Brien and Toffolo are both in line to go and get first-team action elsewhere despite a joint £10million switch from Huddersfield in July.

Left-back Toffolo has made just 12 appearances across all competitions since signing for Cooper’s side.

The former Lincoln star has been frozen out of the side in favour of Atletico Madrid loanee Renan Lodi – with his last start coming in October against Wolves.

Toffolo, who has racked up more than 250 league appearances in English football, signed a contract running until 2026 at the City Ground.

He is one of a number of Forest stars to make a minimal impact at the club despite signing for big money last summer (2022).

Emmanuel Dennis, Giulian Biancone, and Moussa Niakhate have also struggled for first-team action since completing their respective moves.

Nottingham Forest sit 13th in the Premier League, four points clear of the relegation zone ahead of their next top-flight outing against Leeds United (5 February).

Meanwhile, giants Anderlecht sit 11th in the Belgian Pro League after losing manager Vincent Kompany to Burnley last summer (2022).
