Sources: Nottingham Forest work on last-gasp move to sign ex-Newcastle United star Matz Sels
Nottingham Forest are working on a late move for Strasbourg goalkeeper Matz Sels to solve their goalkeeping issues, sources have told Football Insider.
Forest signed both Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos last summer (2023) but neither player has made a positive impact at the City Ground.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are now exploring a potential move for Belgium international Sels ahead of the 11pm deadline on Thursday (1 February).
The 31-year-old has been a regular for Strasbourg since joining the Ligue 1 outfit in 2018.
Sels has turned out 19 times in the French top flight this season, conceding 24 goals and keeping three clean sheets.
He has worn the captain’s armband for the Alsace-based club throughout the 2023-24 campaign.
The shot-stopper is no stranger to English football after spending the 2016-17 campaign on loan at Newcastle United during their time in the Championship.
Sels has also spent time at Anderlecht, KAA Gent and Lierse.
Both Turner and Vlachodimos have had regular runs in the Nottingham Forest side this season but have come in for criticism from fans and pundits alike.

Espirito Santo’s side sit 16th in the Premier League and are just two points above the bottom three.
Forest, who are next in action against Bournemouth on Sunday (4 February) have conceded the third-most goals of any top-flight side.
