Sources: Osimhen in advanced talks to sign deal after Man United swoop

Victor Osimhen is in advanced talks to sign a new Napoli contract in a big blow to Man United, sources have told Football Insider.

The Nigeria international has been a target for the Premier League giants this summer and they registered their interest in a potential deal in the Spring.

But Osimhen, 24, is set to commit his future to the reigning Serie A champions.

He is in negotiations over a new and improved contract that will catapult his wages into the highest bracket in the league.

A further meeting is expected shortly to finalise details, most notably of a release clause well in excess of £100million.

With Osimhen out of the reckoning, Football Insider exclusively revealed on Friday (28 July) that Man United are ready to close the signing of Ramsus Hojlund.

Osimhen has previously gone public to speak about his “dream” of playing in the Premier League – comments which put the likes of Chelsea and Man United on high alert.

However, Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (10 May) that United see his price tag as too rich amid concerns over his lack of experience in England and injury record.

The striker’s injury record has also been scrutinised by recruitment chiefs – with Osimhen missing nine games with muscle problems this term.

Chelsea

Osimhen scored 28 goals in 35 games for Napoli last season – helping Gli Azzurri clinch their first Scudetto win since 1990.

The former Lille hitman only signed for the Italian side for a reported initial fee of around £61million back in 2020.
