Sources: Oxford United beat Charlton to Browne signing after twist
Oxford United have beaten Charlton to the signing of Middlesbrough attacker Marcus Browne, Football Insider understands.
Charlton were hoping to land the winger by Monday’s cut-off and he had been booked in for a medical after terms were agreed with Boro.
But the deal has collapsed and a recruitment source has told Football Insider that Oxford are now set to sign Browne.

He has agreed a permanent deal with the League One club after two previous loan spells at the Kassam Stadium.
Oxford boss Karl Robinson is a huge admirer of Browne having signed him in the 2018-19 campaign from West Ham and then again in the second half of the 2019-20 season from Middlesbrough.
The versatile winger has not featured for Boro since suffering a cruciate ligament injury in January 2021.
He is contracted at the Riverside until next summer but the north east outfit have given him the green light to leave.
Charlton had agreed a loan deal with Boro for Browne amid interest from Championship side Sheffield United.
However, he is now set to depart permanently with a return to Oxford United.
Browne already has 60 appearances under his belt for the U’s after two separate loan spells at the Kassam Stadium.
He played 44 times during the 2018/19 campaign, scoring nine goals and contributing five assists.
Browne then joined Middlesbrough on a permanent deal in the summer of 2019.
The West Ham academy graduate played 14 times for Boro before returning to Oxford in January 2020 on loan.
He helped Oxford reach the play-off final, where they were beaten by Wycombe Wanderers.
Browne is set to return to the Kassam Stadium with the club sitting sixth in League One.
