Wolves winger Helder Costa has told friends he wants to join Leeds United this summer, Football Insider understands.
The Championship giants are battling to beat multiple clubs to the signature of the Portugal international, 25, after he lost his regular starting role at Molineux.
A source with knowledge of Costa’s situation has told Football Insider the attacker is eager to make the journey to Elland Road to reignite his career.
Football Insider exclusively broke the news 12 days ago that United have set their sights on signing Wolves winger Costa on loan this summer.
The Premier League club are open to granting a season-long exit for the one-time international as they look to strengthen their squad following an impressive campaign back in the top flight.
Costa is set for crunch talks with Wolves bosses when he returns from holiday although, encouragingly for Leeds, he started following the club on his personal Instagram account on Tuesday night.
The winger would be regarded as a major coup for Marcelo Bielsa’s side given his pedigree, which has helped bring him 19 goals and 19 assists from 109 Wolves appearances since initially signing on loan in 2016 in a deal that was subsequently made permanent for £13million.
Leeds’ hopes of a straightforward loan deal may not be granted, as Wolves are keen on signing Kalvin Phillips on a permanent deal.
However, United do not want to sell the central midfielder and, as revealed by Football Insider, have promised him he will be offered an improved contract when he returns from holiday.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club have been handed a major boost in bid to sign 21-year-old top of Bielsa’s transfer list.
