Sources: Shrewsbury Town in advanced talks to sign Birmingham City star Cosgrove

Shrewsbury Town are in advanced talks to sign Birmingham City striker Sam Cosgrove, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The League One outfit are working on a deal for the 6ft 4in front man as they look to strengthen up front.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that negotiations over Cosgrove heading to Shrewsbury on loan are close to resulting in an agreement.

Cosgrove only joined Birmingham in January following a successful spell with Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

A reported fee of £2million was paid to the Scottish club in the January window to secure the striker’s services.

However, Cosgrove failed to score in 12 Championship games and finds himself out of Blues manager Lee Bowyer’s plans this season.

As revealed by Football Insider earlier on Wednesday (August 11th), Bowyer wants to sign Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor.

The Blues boss is keen to add more firepower at St Andrew’s before the window slams shut.

Shrewsbury have been actively pursuing a new centre-forward this summer.

A loan move to The Shrews will see the giant forward provide much-needed competition for Ryan Bowman and Daniel Udoh.

Cosgrove emerged in 2017 with Carlisle after being released by Wigan and earned himself a move to Scotland’s top flight.

In four seasons with Aberdeen, the Yorkshireman scored 47 goals in 103 games.

According to the Shropshire Star, Shrewsbury had held talks over a potential loan for Wales international Sam Vokes.

However, the 31-year-old ended up joining Wycombe Wanderers.

In other news, this League One side is set to lose their star man to the Championship.
