Sources: Southampton plot move for Rangers starlet Cameron Scott after he rejects club’s contract offer

Southampton are plotting a move for Rangers sensation Cameron Scott after he rejected an Ibrox professional contract, sources have told Football Insider.

Southampton have been tracking the 16-year-old for some time and have been alerted to a potential move for him.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (1 February) that Scott has been offered a three-year pro deal by Rangers as they look to tie him down long term.

However, the Scotland Under-16 international has rejected Rangers’ opening offer as he wants to explore his options.

It is a blow to Rangers, who do not want to lose a highly promising young player considered one of the best in their academy.

Scott joined the youth setup at Ibrox during his childhood and has worked his way up the ranks to be on the brink of the senior team.

He has shone for Rangers’ Under-17s development side this season and caught the eye of new manager Michael Beale.

Beale has openly spoken this season about the club’s need to add more youth to what is an ageing Rangers squad.

Nathan Jones already added James Bree, Mislav Orsic, Paul Onuachu, Carlos Alcaraz and Kamaldeen Sulemana to his squad in January to help their relegation fight and Scott could be the latest youngster to join the roster at St Mary’s.

The Southampton academy is famed for developing stars such as Gareth Bale and Alan Shearer in the past and it could be a huge lure for Scott as he continues to explore contract options.
