Sources: Tottenham ‘miles apart’ from Leicester in James Maddison price twist
Tottenham are also currently unwilling to meet Leicester’s valuation of midfielder James Maddison, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (16 June) that Newcastle are currently only willing to pay £30million for Maddison.
Leicester are holding out for a fee of £50million for the 26-year-old following their relegation to the Championship.
Tottenham and Newcastle are currently unwilling to meet that valuation – with both clubs hoping to land him on a cut-price fee the longer the window drags on.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that both sides are “miles apart” in the process at present, meaning no move is imminent despite the transfer window opening earlier this week.
The three-time England international has just 12 months left to run on his contract, meaning Leicester could lose him for free in 2024.
Maddison notched 10 goals and nine assists in 30 Premier League games during the 2022-23 campaign – even wearing the armband on occasion.
Ex-Coventry star Maddison nets a reported wage of £110,000-a-week.
The 26-year-old has managed 43 goals and 34 assists in 163 top-flight appearances since joining Leicester in 2018.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month (1 June) that Maddison is “almost certain” to leave the King Power Stadium following the club’s relegation.

Newcastle will play Champions League football in the 2023-24 season – while transfer rivals Tottenham will be without European football for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign.
Spurs are yet to make their first signing of the summer window since appointing new boss Ange Postecoglou.
