Sources: Tottenham move to sign marquee striker as Richarlison plan revealed

Tottenham have already done their homework on potential Harry Kane replacements and will now move for a prolific striker in the final weeks of the window, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has admitted (as per Sky Sports, 11 August) he knew of Kane’s desire to quit the club from “day one” of his tenure.

The Australian has therefore been given time to work with his transfer chiefs to draw up a shortlist of replacements for the England captain, who completed his Bayern Munich switch on Saturday (12 August).

It is believed Spurs will now launch moves for their top choices after receiving a reported £86million initial fee from the Bundesliga giants, which could rise to £100million after add-ons.

A well-placed source has revealed that despite his start in the number nine role against Brentford on Sunday (13 August), Richarlison is not seen as the long-term solution to lead the line for Postecoglou’s side.

The Brazil international struggled for impact against the Bees, recording just two shots as Spurs came away with a 2-2 draw to start the new campaign.

Richarlison will be under the spotlight at Tottenham after his below-par first season at the club.

He managed just three goals and four assists in 35 appearances across all competitions after joining from Everton in a reported £60million deal last summer.

Heung-min Son also struggled in the 2022-23 campaign, scoring just 10 league goals after winning the competition’s Golden Boot in the previous season.

By contrast, Kane managed 32 goals and five assists last term – including 30 strikes in last season’s Premier League campaign.

Tottenham face Man United next week (19 August) before travelling to Bournemouth (29 August) in the last league game before the transfer window shuts.
