Sources: Tottenham plotting to re-sign 25-yr-old loved by Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham are plotting to re-sign Kyle Walker-Peters from Southampton this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Walker-Peters will leave the Saints if they are relegated at the end of the season and is set to be the subject of a lot of interest from Premier League clubs including Man United.

Spurs, who sold the 25-year-old to Southampton in 2020 after a season on loan, are keen to bring the defender back to London in the summer.

Walker-Peters was loved by former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino when he was in charge from 2014-2019.

He recently revealed his admiration for Pochettino and how “Pochettino always said that one day I would play for Tottenham regularly.”

Current manager Antonio Conte is expected to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by the end of the season and Pochettino is among the potential replacements.

The England international began his career with Spurs back in 2014 when he joined their under-18s team.

The defender worked his way through the ranks in London before moving to the Saints three years ago.

He made 24 appearances for the first team during his time at Spurs, scoring one goal and providing six assists in those outings.

Walker-Peters’ current contract at St Mary’s runs until 2025 but is unlikely to see out the remaining two years if his side are relegated this season.

But, as quoted by HampshireLive (21 March), the defender said he is “forever grateful” to Southampton for believing in him and said he never wants to “let them down”.

He added that their chance to stay in the top flight is “there for the taking” and that he “has the belief” that the club will be able to do so.
