Sources: Walsall agree to sign Huddersfield star Phillips

Walsall have agreed to sign Huddersfield Town striker Kieran Phillips, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The forward, 21, is finalising paperwork with the League Two club after they had a bid accepted.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Phillips will join Walsall on a season-long loan.

The promising striker made his first-team debut for the Terriers back in January.

Manager Carlos Corberan has now given Phillips the green light to head out on loan in pursuit of regular game time.

He is set to drop into League Two for the upcoming campaign with Walsall.

The Saddlers finished 19th in the fourth tier last term and were the sixth-lowest scorers in the division.

They identified the Huddersfield hitman as an exciting young prospect who could help solve their attacking woes next season.

Phillips has made 11 first-team appearances for the Terriers to date, 10 of which have come in the Championship.

His one and only start came in a 3-2 defeat to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup back in January.

The Huddersfield-born hitman left his boyhood club to join Everton as an under-13s player.

However, he returned to Huddersfield permanently last summer after an initial loan move in January 2020.

He signed a new contract, running until 2022, last September.

However, the Terriers have an option to extend the terms by another year.

Phillips featured as a substitute nine times in 13 games between January and March.

Frazier Campbell, Danny Ward, Josh Koroma and new signing Jordan Rhodes are currently Huddersfield’s other centre-forward options.
