Watford forward Luis Suarez has opened talks to join Marseille, Football Insider can reveal.
The 22-year-old is still to make his debut for the Hornets having spent the past few seasons out on loan in Spain.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Ligue 1 giants Marseille are in talks with the striker over a potential transfer this window.
Suarez hugely impressed in the 2019/20 campaign while on loan at Real Zaragoza in La Liga 2.
The forward’s 38 league appearances yielded 19 goals and six assists as he helped Zaragoza to third in the table.
He still has two years remaining on his contract at Vicarage Road having been signed from Colombian side Leones FC in the summer of 2017.
The striker has been unable to play for Watford since his arrival due to work permit issues, hence loan moves to Real Valladolid B, Gimnastic and Real Zaragoza.
However, Suarez secured himself dual Spanish-Colombian citizenship last October which enables him to now play in England.
He was not a part of new Hornets boss Vladimir Ivic’s squad to face Middlesborough on Friday which suggests that he could be surplus to requirements this season.
Ivic has added two strikers to his ranks this summer with Glenn Murray joining on a season-long loan deal from Brighton and Stipe Perica signing from Udinese.
The future of Troy Deeney remains in the balance with West Brom and Tottenham interested in signing the 32-year-old this summer, Football Insider understands.
While exciting Senegalese forward Ismaila Sarr continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool where he could line up alongside his countryman Sadio Mane.
If both Deeney and Sarr were to leave the club this month it could have a major impact on the future of Suarez but for now it appears that he is surplus to requirements at Vicarage Road.
