Southampton masseur Gianni Fenu has revealed that Leeds owner Massimo Cellino tried to lure him to Elland Road in the past.
Fenu is a soft tissue therapist at Premier League side Southampton and previously worked with Championship side Huddersfield, before joining the Saints in 2016.
Cellino has been keen to bring in Italian representatives during his time with the Yorkshire club and a number of players have been purchased from Serie A and Serie B sides.
Italian masseur Fenu has recalled having a good relationship with Cellino in the past and even admitted he wanted him to join Leeds’ backroom staff.
“I breathed the wonderful atmosphere of the Championship and I also got to know Cellino, the president of Leeds United and a Sardinian like me,” Fenu told Gianluca Di Marzio’s website. “He wanted me with him, but at the time the conditions weren’t right.”
Leeds will be hoping they can compete against Southampton next season as they bid for promotion from the Championship.
Cellino appointed ex-Swansea manager Garry Monk in the summer and he has helped the Whites transform into promotion candidates.
They are currently fourth-placed in the league table and it’s more than likely they will have to go through the dreaded play-offs if they are to reach the top-flight of English football.
