Why 25-year-old will be sorely missed in Tottenham clash against Southampton

Southampton will miss Jordy Clasie for their clash against Tottenham on Wednesday evening.
The 25-year-old would have provided valuable cover in midfield and protection against Tottenham’s attacking stars so he will be missed by Claude Puel’s side.
The Dutchman has been ruled out of the clash with a groin injury and he is likely to miss the entire festive period, including the games against Tottenham and West Brom.
Clasie has started just eight Premier League games for Southampton but since the end of November he has had a more prominent role in the team.
Against Tottenham, he would have been a valuable addition for Puel, who doesn’t have many options like Clasie in his squad in the defensive midfield role.

Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Harry Kane could all cause Puel’s side a number of problems in defence and Clasie could have added an extra layer of protection.
The Dutchman has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League since his move from Feyenoord in the summer and sometimes finds the intensity of the game overwhelming at times
Despite this, he has a good reading of the game and it allows him to make a number of interceptions and blocks, which are valuable traits for Southampton.
He’s a strong tackler too and the Saints could have done with his ability to breakdown Tottenham’s play in front of the back four.
