Scottish Premier League outfit Hibernian are keen to secure a season-long loan move for Manchester City youngster Brandon Barker this summer, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that the Manchester club want the 20-year-old to gain more first-team experience this season and they believe that Hibs are the perfect club for him to do so.
The newspaper reports that the Premier League side have seen how winger Patrick Roberts benefitted from his two-year loan spell with the SPL champions Celtic and they believe that Barker could also further develop his game whilst plying his trade in Scotland.
The report claims that Barker could potentially feature for the SPL side this weekend if negotiations between the two British clubs enter an advanced stage.
The attacking midfielder is not the only City youngster attracting interest this summer as the Mirror recently reported that Serie A side Napoli have made a move for midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The young Englishman was sent out on loan to Dutch top-flight side NAC Breda last season, where he contributed with two goals and one assist in 24 appearances.
Barker currently has three years remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium.
Football Insider verdict
Playing in the SPL would certainly be beneficial for Barker in the long run. The youngster will have to adapt to the physical side of the game much more and he’ll have the opportunity to test himself against sides such as Celtic and Rangers. Given that Barker has yet to make single appearance for the Manchester City senior team, he is unlikely to be handed an opportunity this season even with in the domestic cup competitions with the club investing so heavily in the squad this season. Should the loan spell work out for Barker, he could potentially attract interest from a number of Premier League clubs next summer so it’s up to the player himself to work hard and look at this a great opportunity to further enhance his footballing career.
