Arsenal scouts headed out to Germany on Tuesday night in order to watch Gunners target Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup play against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, according to a report.
The Mirror revealed that representatives of the North London club were present as the Bundesliga hosts comprehensively thumped the Turkish side 5-0 to all but guarantee their progression into the next stage of the competition.
However, the 25-year-old was actually on the bench for the Super Lig side and did not feature in a match where he was an unused substitute.
The Gunners have been hotly linked with bringing the former player back to Arsenal after he left the club in 2012 to pursue more first team opportunities.
Ozyakup is out of contract with Beskitas in the summer and Arsene Wenger is said to be “obsessed” with the idea of bringing the attacker back to the Emirates.
Football Insider verdict:
Exactly why the Gunners boss is keen to tie up a deal for Ozyakup is anyone’s guessing. Yes, he would come cheaply but what about quality? It didn’t work out for the player the first time he played for the club so it is unlikely that the Arsenal faithful will see anything that they haven’t already seen before from the Turk. And that’s before you get to the fact that this is another attacking midfielder – haven’t the Gunners already got a wealth of player’s in that position? Strangely enough, it looks like this one will go through.
