Stan Collymore dismisses Lineker's bold comments about Tottenham striker Kane

By Amir Mir

Stan Collymore has dismissed Gary Lineker’s comments that Tottenham striker Harry Kane is better than Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

Match of the Day presenter Lineker made the bold comments on Sunday evening after Kane secured back-to-back Golden Boot awards.

Collymore was full of praise for Kane himself by stating anyone who can score the volume of goals he is scoring then there is no question that they are “world class”.

Kane has struck 29 league goals this season from 30 matches and has found the back of the net on 78 occasions in the league since 2014.

Former Liverpool forward Collymore offered his thoughts on Kane as he stated what he needs to do to go to the next level.

“Harry Kane has been exceptional this season with 29 goals in 30 Premier League games,” Collymore told the Mirror.

“And if you’re scoring that many goals in one of the best leagues in the world then I don’t think there is any debate about whether or not you’re world class.

“But Gary Lineker flippantly said he was better than Karim Benzema and that is quite a shout when you consider what the Frenchman has won.

“The questions now are whether Tottenham can win trophies, Kane can get a goal every other game in the Champions League group stages and at a World Cup?”

France international Benzema, 29,  is six years older than Kane and has a lot more experience under his belt, particularly, in Europe.

During his career, he has won two Champions League trophies as he could add a third European crown to his cabinet in June.

Madrid will play Italian giants Juventus in the final in Cardiff, with Benzema being an ever-present figure on their road to the final.

During his side’s 12 Champions League matches, he has scored five goals, with four of those strikes coming during the group stages.

By contrast, this season was the first time that Kane had played in Europe’s top club competition as he scored two goals during his three matches.

In other Tottenham news, the club will win the Premier League title next season if they pursue deals for these two Champions League superstars.
