Stan Collymore identifies four problem areas at Liverpool
By Dominic Toner
Stan Collymore has picked out four positions in the Liverpool side that must be improved.
The Reds are currently in poor form and have lost their last three consecutive games across all competitions.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been eliminated from the EFL and FA Cup in the past week, with defeats to Southampton and Wolves respectively.
The Merseyside club have also fallen 10 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea and their title bid has taken a huge hit recently.
Collymore has highlighted the areas of the pitch that Klopp needs to add to make them better.
“Liverpool still need a top class goalkeeper, one top class central defender, one top class defensive midfielder and a steady left-back. That’s 2/3 of a spine. Troubling,” Collymore wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Liverpool’s goalkeeper position is something that has been well discussed, with Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet both enduring spells on the bench.
They have also been forced to field make-shift left-back James Milner at full-back as Klopp does not trust alternative option Alberto Moreno.
Liverpool have Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan as their main centre-back options, but Collymore believes they can be improved.
The Reds play with a three-man midfield and Emre Can is the main defensive option, but has his fair share of critics among supporters.
Klopp’s side will hope to get back on track on Tuesday night as they face table toppers Chelsea at Anfield.
