Stan Collymore issues angry rants on Twitter after Joey Barton is banned from football

By Amir Mir

Stan Collymore has defended Burnley midfielder Joey Barton after he was banned from football for breaching betting rules.

Sky Sports reported on Wednesday afternoon that the former Rangers man has been banned from all football-related activity for 18 months.

Barton admitted an FA misconduct charge relating to betting as it has now been confirmed by the governing body that he has been banned with immediate effect.

This has resulted in former Premier League striker Collymore issuing a number of passionate rants about Barton’s ban.

He was angry about certain journalists using the banned player to start a “moral crusade” while labelling those people hypocrites stating that they should do the same with those who they work for.

As things stand, Barton cannot play, manage, advice or do any footballing related activity until he completes his ban or it is reduced upon appeal.

It has been a turbulent season for Barton, who began the season playing for Rangers when he moved to the club on a free transfer in the summer.

However, his time at Ibrox did not last long as his contract was ended within months following a bust-up in training after the Gers had suffered a 5-1 away defeat to rivals Celtic.

Former England international Barton played in that humiliating defeat as it turned out to be his last game in Scotland.

Barton subsequently returned to Burnley with whom he helped earn promotion from the Championship in the previous season as he now finds himself on the sidelines for over a year.

In other Rangers news, fans react on Twitter as this striker is reportedly set to agree on a deal before the Celtic clash.
