Stan Collymore: Forget the highlights, Liverpool should snap the hands off buyers for star

By Harvey Byrne

Outspoken pundit Stan Collymore believes Liverpool should snap the hands off buyers for star attacker Philippe Coutinho.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has often been linked with a number of elite clubs after shining for the Reds since he joined.

However, his performances ahead of Saturday’s Merseyside derby against Everton have often come in for criticism and despite scoring in the 3-1 victory, former Reds man Collymore still believes the club should look to sell Coutinho.

The active social media user was asked by a fan on his personal Twitter account whether the club should still sell Coutinho after his starring display against the Toffees, but Collymore stood by his opinion and claimed that he that he doesn’t change enough games to warrant his valuation despite looking good in highlights.

As well as his goal, Coutinho provided an assist for Divock Origi for the third Liverpool goal and his run caught out a number of Everton defender’s for the opener.

He has taken his tally for the season up to eight goals and eight assists in 29 outings in all competitions and he still has five years left on his contract after signing a new deal in January.

A number of Reds fans will be hoping the board don’t follow the same mindset as Collymore with many keen to see the club retain star Countinho’s services.
