Stan Collymore takes swipe at Euro elite after Celtic win v Anderlecht

By Danny Wright

Former England international Stan Collymore has hailed what he believes to be a “magnificent” performance by Celtic against Anderlecht on Wednesday night.

The Hoops romped to only their second ever away win the Champions League as Leigh Griffiths, Patrick Roberts and Scott Sinclair scored in what turned out to be a routine 3-0 win.

Many looked as the trip to Brussels as the game that Celtic would have to win the most in order to secure at least a third place finish in their group, which also contains Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

The Bhoys rose to the challenge and ensured that they have a great chance of having European football after Christmas this season with a scintillating display.

Collymore makes no secret of his affinity towards Celtic and took to his personal Twitter account on Wednesday to rave about the club’s history in European competition, taking a swipe at the European elite in the process.

“Celtic. Fantastic win. A club who’s European heritage demands standards that most can only attain through money. Magnificent,” he said.

Next up for Celtic is a clash with Hibernian at Parkhead on Saturday as they look to continue their progress towards winning the Scottish Premiership title.

In the Champions League, a Bayern Munich double-header awaits the Hoops after they were brushed aside by PSG 3-0 on Wednesday, leaving the French side clear at the top of Group B.
