Staveley delivers honest verdict on £350m Newcastle claim - delivers warning to Mike Ashley

Prospective Newcastle United investor Amanda Staveley has said that current owner Mike Ashley has every right to demand £350million for the club but has warned his recent actions may scare off other suitors.
The Magpies have been at the centre of a takeover saga since the Sports Direct supremo officially put the club up for sale back in October, with the British businesswoman having fronted an approach from PCP Capital Partners to try and seal a deal.
However, despite elongated negotiations, no agreement has been made, with the last week having seen a series of allegations and claims made by both parties, including the suggestion that talks had completely collapsed and that no deal would be made.
Staveley’s managerial partner and husband in PCP, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, has reiterated that they will continue to seek out a deal for the Magpies for as long as Rafael Benitez is in charge, while Staveley has now insisted that they will look for a deal only if it right for their plans.
She also gave the honest verdict that Ashley is well within his rights to claim the club is worth £350million, but that his side’s behaviour, including a comment about Staveley’s offer being a waste of time, could ward off investors who are willing to meet his demands.
She told UAE based newspaper the National: “This is an investment, but it has to be a long-term investment.
“Newcastle would be run as a business, but we want it to be a successful, thriving business that is an absolutely integral part of the city.
“That is [Mr Ashley’s] right if he thinks it is worth £350m, he’s got a right to wait for the right price and that’s okay [but] don’t scare off other potential bidders because there are so few potential parties that can buy it.”
Ashley has been in charge of the club since his purchase back in 2007, and has endured a tumultuous decade on Tyneside, with two relegations and a host of controversy clouding his tenure.
