Stefan Borson: This is how Man City will fund Antoine Semenyo deal
Antoine Semenyo is one of Manchester City’s top targets heading into the January transfer window.
Semenyo has a £65million release clause in his Bournemouth contract that can be activated once the window opens, while the price will drop further next summer.
The Athletic reported on 23 December the Ghana international’s preference is to join Man City despite interest from several other Premier League clubs.
Man City are currently the favourites to sign Semenyo, but the situation could change over the coming days.
Liverpool are also pushing to agree a deal for Semenyo as they look to improve their attacking options following Alexander Isak’s injury.
Who could Man City sell after signing Antoine Semenyo?
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Pep Guardiola’s side can sign Semenyo in January, but he insisted sales are also likely to be on the cards at the Etihad Stadium.
The 25-year-old scored in Bournemouth’s 4-1 defeat against Brentford on Saturday (27 December).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “I would expect them to be able to do the deal no problem, but to be looking to move players on either in January or, of course, in the summer.
“I think the list of candidates is pretty clear. That said, a couple of those players who I would say are likely candidates, players like Rico Lewis and Savinho, were players that they had the opportunity to sell last summer and decided not to, so we’ll see.
“But I think they can do the deal now on Semenyo. I would caution as to whether they can do many more deals without selling.”

Semenyo has registered nine goals and three assists in 18 appearances for Andoni Iraola’s side this season, drawing interest from several top clubs.
Why Pep Guardiola could sanction two Man City exits
Guardiola is likely to be open to moving players on in January to fund the Semenyo deal after previously expressing his desire to work with a smaller squad.
Savinho has been linked with a Man City exit again after almost joining Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
The Brazil international, who only signed a new contract until 2031 in October, has started in just nine of his 22 appearances this season, registering two goals and three assists.

Meanwhile, Rico Lewis came close to joining Nottingham Forest in the summer before penning an extension at the Etihad until 2030.
The 21-year-old has been limited to just seven starts in his 14 outings this season.
