Stefan Borson: This is how much Antoine Semenyo will earn after finalising Man City deal

Manchester City are closing in on a deal to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.

Semenyo has a £65million release clause in his Bournemouth contract that can be activated before 10 January.

Liverpool have also been pushing to sign Semenyo, but he’s made it clear his preference is to join Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Ghana international played in Bournemouth’s 3-2 defeat against Arsenal on Saturday (3 January) despite claims a deal has been agreed in principle for him to move to the Etihad Stadium.

The Guardian reported on 30 December Semenyo will earn a basic salary of around £150,000 a week plus incentives across a five-year contract.

How much do Man City spend on wages?

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Semenyo is likely to earn closer to £200k a week at the Etihad.

Man City have paid the highest wages in the Premier League over the past few years, but their total dropped slightly from £412.6m to £408.4m last season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Semenyo’s anticipated salary, Borson said: “Well, it’s been reported in a slightly odd way because it’s been reported that that’s his basic and it includes his incentives, but it can’t be both.

“I mean, I think the reality is I would expect him to be on £150k basic at this sort of time with City. I would think the average all in at City now is £200-225k, something like that.

“I think he’ll expect to be on £200k a week, £10m a year if he’s playing and City are achieving on the field.”

Antoine Semenyo to match Man City stars after wages revealed

Semenyo will become Man City’s joint-fifth most-expensive signing alongside Ruben Dias if he completes his move to the Etihad.

“I think you should work on the basis that a player signed for £65m at City is going to be taking £200k a week as a package, including sort of pretty basic incentives,” said Borson.

“Not his basic salary, but the sorts of things that he will expect as a minimum to be earning within that.

“Obviously, we don’t know, but if you look at City’s overall wage bill, that’s what’s implied that it must be around those sorts of levels.”

Semenyo has registered nine goals and three assists in 20 appearances for Bournemouth this season.
