Steve Bruce makes big claim about Aston Villa, Newcastle fans will be furious

Steve Bruce insists Aston Villa are the ‘biggest scalp’ in the Championship, dismissing high-flying rivals Newcastle.
Aston Villa have struggled in the Championship this season, and could miss out on promotion back to the Premier League with the club currently 11th in the table.
But Bruce believes the reason for their struggles can be attributed to their rivals wanting to perform on the big stage at Villa Park, making a massive claim about the club as the ‘big scalp in the division.’
However, he insisted that he is the right man to lead the club back into England’s top flight, having previously done so with Birmingham and Hull.
He said, as quoted by the Chronicle: “I am always confident that I can put a team together that can get out of this division. I have done it before and it would be terrific to do it here.

“It’s never going to be easy because of who you are. Aston Villa are the big scalp in this division. Everyone wants to turn us over.
“All the teams that come to Villa Park want to perform on the big stage and in the big arena. So all the bits and pieces make it difficult but I am quietly confident that we will be able to mount a challenge.”
Yet while Aston Villa have endured a topsy-turvy campaign in the Championship, fellow relegated outfit Newcastle have thrived, and Magpies fans will not take to Bruce’s comments too lightly.
Newcastle have spent much of the season battling it out with Brighton at the top of the table, and are currently second with five matches remaining, and fans will be furious at Bruce dismissing them as the ‘big scalp’
Promotion contenders Reading are the next side looking to visit Villa Park and get a result, going up against an Aston Villa side on Saturday who are undefeated in five league matches.
In other Aston Villa news, the club have been handed a major boost as two first team players have stepped up their comebacks from injury.
