Steve Hodge: This Nottingham Forest player ran the show against Aston Villa
By Harry Sykes
Midfielder David Vaughan ran the show for Nottingham Forest during their win against Aston Villa at the weekend.
That is the verdict of Forest legend Steve Hodge, who followed the match in his punditry role for BBC Nottingham Sport.
Forest made it two wins in two Championship games as they came from a goal down to beat Villa 2-1 at the City Ground on Saturday evening.
Jonathan Kodjia put the visitor in the lead in the 19th minute, but Britt Assombalonga equalised for the home team on 42 minutes before 17-year-old Ben Brereton scored the winner for Forest in the third minute of injury time, with his first senior goal.
Brereton grabbed the headlines but Hodge claimed no player on the pitch was more influential than 42-times Wales international Vaughan.
The 33-year-old former Sunderland midfielder played the entirety of a match in which Forest used home advantage to secure a win that drew them level on points with Villa.
In total, deep-lying playmaker Vaughan has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season and emerged as a key man under new manager Gary Brazil.
Forest are 15th in the Championship table at the moment with 36 points from 30 matches, while Villa are just one place higher with the same points haul from one fewer match.
In other Nottingham Forest news, the club have issued a response following a £2.5million bid for one of their players from a Premier League giant.
