Steven Gerrard aims sly dig at Rangers boss Philippe Clement in new message
Steven Gerrard took to social media to share Ianis Hagi’s recent post regarding their 3-0 win over Celtic after the Romanian was frozen out by Rangers boss Philippe Clement at the start of the season.
The 44-year-old watched on from Saudi Arabia as his former club closed the gap on their arch-rivals at the top of the Scottish Premier League table to 11 points.
Hagi opened the scoring after just seven minutes with an impressive low drive that left Kasper Schmeichel with no chance in the Celtic goal.
Brendan Rodgers’ side thought they bagged the equaliser at Ibrox soon after half-time but Kyogo Furuhashi’s cheeky finish was ruled out for offside after VAR intervention.
Robin Propper finally doubled the home side’s lead just after the hour mark, capitalising on Celtic’s failure to clear their lines from a corner.
Clement’s side pressed Celtic relentlessly throughout the game and it paid off big time late on, allowing Danilo to round off the scoring in the 81st minute.
Steven Gerrard celebrates Old Firm win with Ianis Hagi returning to the fold at Rangers under Philippe Clement
Hagi had been completely frozen out by Clement, alongside Todd Cantwell, at the start of the season and was forced to train with the reserves as Rangers looked to move him on for much-needed funds.
The Romania international has since returned to action, starting eight of his 11 games across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing three assists in his 836 minutes of action.
Rangers’ 3-0 win over Celtic was their first with Philippe Clement at the helm, a record that pales in comparison to that of Gerrard, who won eight, drew one, and lost four.
Clearly delighted to see his former player perform well, Gerrard took to Instagram to share his most recent post in what could be perceived as a dig at Philippe Clement for freezing him out in the first place, saying: “Things we love to see.”

Rangers may still be some way off Celtic at the top of the table, but this Old Firm win could be the boost they need to change their fortunes after a stuttering start to the season.
Clement’s side travel to Hibernian for their second game of 2025 on Sunday (January 5) ground on their old rivals.
