Steven Gerrard delivers verdict on Celtic display against Astana, names three players who impressed

Steven Gerrard claimed Celtic are in “dreamland” after they took a giant step towards the Champions League group stages with a 5-0 play off first-leg demolition of FC Astana on Wednesday night.
A Scott Sinclair double, a James Forrest strike and two own goals contributed to a massive home triumph to put Brendan Rodgers’ side in a virtually unassailable position ahead of the away leg next Tuesday.
Liverpool legend Gerrard was among the spectators at Parkhead and was impressed what he saw from Celtic as he lauded the tactical acumen of his former boss at Anfield, Brendan Rodgers.
“The game plan was obviously to set up 4-4-2, but in possession for it to become a back five,” Gerrard told BT Sport’s live coverage of the clash immediately afterwards.
“This allowed the likes of Sinclair and Forrest to come between the lines and link up with Rogic, which they did really well.”

“The gameplan worked tremendously well and you have to give Brendan credit for that, as he called it before the game. Celtic fans are in dreamland because it’s job done.
Astana have an excellent record at home in Kazakhstan, but this tie appears beyond them now.
Celtic have the experience and game management to complete their progress into the group stage of the Champions League.
In other Celtic transfer news, the Hoops have agreed terms with a goal machine and deal will be signed by Saturday.
