Liverpool recorded a 1-0 win away at West Brom on Sunday afternoon – but fans on Twitter have slated Lucas Leiva for his stupid yellow card during the game.

The 30-year-old produced a top notch display for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they picked up a much-needed three points in their race to finish in the Champions League places.

Roberto Firmino scored the only goal of the game when he headed home Lucas’ flick-on just before the break.

The away side went into the half-time interval full of confidence and weren’t troubled by their hosts, who failed to show any attacking threat during the game.

Despite fans reacting to Lucas picking up another yellow, it was only his third booking of the campaign, a decent recorded for a player that has played in the back four and in defensive midfield this term.

Nonetheless, Lucas had produced a number of fouls he should have been booked for earlier on in the game before the referee eventually carded him after 73 minutes.

The Brazil international fouled James McLean but in terms of his quality on the ball, he was brilliant throughout for his side.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Over the course of the season, Lucas has played 26 games in all competitions for his side, scoring one goal and supplying the same number of assists.

The three points at the Hawthorns mean the Reds move up to third in the table as they are now on 66 points from their 33 league matches.

They have played more games than the chasing pack with Manchester United, City and Arsenal all having games in hands on the Merseyside club.

In other Liverpool news, this quartet were 4/10 during the win against West Brom.
